I don’t think of it exclusively in terms of sexuality so much as the notion of the queering of the world. Popverse is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited. The last chapter of Historia is ultimately a war story and epic tragedy in the Homeric tradition as only DeConnick and Scott can tell it. I think of being queer as being anti-tradition, anti-patriarchal, as something that upends kind of a traditional and often conservative, regressive point of view.

It just has a proud and profound feminist point of view, and that thrills me because I think that queers our industry a little bit.

While Jimenez certainly has extensive history with Wonder Woman, his artwork throughout Historia is unlike any of his previous work with the character, with character designs that range from the majestic and divine to the primal and inherently visceral. And I guess the thing I would want you to take away from it is the idea of questioning the version of history that you have always been fed. On the other hand, if you’re anticipating the same old story about the trials of Wonder Woman’s people, you’re about to be brilliantly surprised.

So, I wanted to mirror, or perpetuate a sort of way of telling a story with a certain number of panels and epic scope in homage to the people who influenced me, but also hopefully put in a twist and create something new.The inaugural issue had concluded with the introduction of Hippolyta, a woman who endured some of the gravest injustices society had to offer. When DC’s Black Label imprint launched in 2018, Historia was one of the first books announced for the lineup.

As Book One begins on November 30, the limited series will span across three parts, telling a story that takes place over thousands of years.Jimenez spoke on his creative process, saying, “The thing that excited me the most about this project was Kelly Sue’s take on the mythology. While Historia maintains its grandiosity, the narrative emphasis begins to shift from a broader, world-building tale to one that focuses on a much more singular story. And so, prioritizing the comfort of those men and getting their own needs met in a way that didn’t appear demanding or burdensome was a survival adaptation.
