About this deal

The problem with this case is that Chase actually went to a seminar where Dr Wilbur and Sybil discussed MPD. The other problem I have with Chase is that she and her therapist claim that she has 99-120 personalities. Even now we don't know much about DID, and it's still being studied - Truddi Chase's story came about long before psychologists knew as much as they do now, and I think her story is pretty important.

While Ten-Four is referred to as "she" in the narrative, Ten-Four states that they do not identify as any gender. Reading this book brought me to understand how the mind works to help the body to survive, no matter the trauma or challenge being experienced. Miss Wonderful: An innocent Pollyanna young woman under the especial protection of Mean Joe, she has no knowledge of anything sexual and believes that everything is always "just lovely. Chase grumbles that she hates driving after Ian has emerged because "he" always pushes the car seat back too far for her to reach the pedals.Directed by Lamont Johnson, each scene guides the viewers through Truddi's life, with narrated childhood memories, accurately depicting her life's experiences without overwhelming violence. I guess I needed to come to terms with the story on my own, which was difficult, because it really read like a science-fiction novel, just like Dr. When Rabbit Howls] is the reconstruction, through therapy, of the lost life of a woman so…abused by her stepfather that her only defense down the years was to shatter into the Troops…no fewer than 92 different and autonomous personalities. There is so little actual substance in this book, it's easy to see why it has been hailed as more fiction than fact. Chase deserves to have her story told and the viewer can learn about what the horrors of child abuse can cause.

The autobiographical book she wrote, " When Rabbit Howls", was it deemed to be authentic and true as well? i gave the book 2 stars because nevertheless, i feel for an abused child no matter whether the story being told is true or fiction, but my bullshit meter went off so many times while reading this that i just couldn't completely believe. Grace the Zombie: She appears when the system is overwhelmed; she is perpetually calm to the point of appearing zombie-like.

I can certainly see how the mind of a child so young could split (even multiple times), and how her true self left entirely. As a clinical psychology student, I found the introduction far more valuable than the content of the book, for in the introduction the therapist revealed enough of his methods to discredit every single word that was written by the patient herself.

Albert Johnson, with whom Stanley discusses the case was created for the book as a way to discuss both therapy details and information about child abuse. Or, is it just used by manipulative individuals who want to escape responsibility for their actions? Over a ten-year period, these selves, "The Troops" -- men, women and children -- explained to Phillips exactly what had happened. If you're at all interested in psychology and the potential of the human psyche to both splinter and protect itself, then you should read this book. She said that when she went to the library to get books about sexual abuse, all of them were one because children would sign them out.Instead of being able to consider his ambitions of performing in a local talent quest, he is traumatized by the nightmares or flashbacks of being a ‘green snake’, the most effective killing machine he once was.

Abusive Parents: The Stepfather, although the Mother dished out a fair share of physical and emotional abuse. In 1990, the book was adapted into a two-part ABC miniseries, titled Voices Within: The Lives of Truddi Chase, which cast Shelley Long in the title role.

With all the mental illness in this country people need to be aware of the dramatic effects of abuse. naturally, it is preferable to be able to control dissociation, but especially early on, it just is not. It is shocking and completely enthralling to watch as personality after personality unfolds, some are born and some die and more selves are created less from the original, but from each sepereate self. In the early 1980s, Chase began therapy to address feelings of extreme fear and distress which she thought might be related to the fact that her stepfather had "fondled" her.
