About this deal

When using 5Ah batteries on site, for example, one battery will usually last most of the day on site unless drilling larger holes through joist sized timbers. He works with architects, builders, self builders and renovators, and designs and project manages the installation of ventilation and heating systems to achieve the most energy efficient and cost effective outcome for every home. The power remaining in the battery can be indicated in 3 stages simply by pushing a button; 3 lights on: more than 50% of full battery capacity. The 2 speed gearbox provides 0-1,800rpm in high and 0-400rpm in low which also delivers a massive torque of 88Nm, plenty of power even for the most demanding drilling and screwdriving tasks.

The DHP484 has a brushless motor, brushless motors are designed to deliver power more efficiently, this helping the battery to last longer. I do get a commission on products I recommend, however, I will always give my honest opinion on recommended products. The drill is compatible with the Makita 18 volt LXT lithium ion range of batteries so will easily fit into a system of tools that all use the same batteries. High power and productivity is achieved thanks to the DC motor that delivers a maximum fastening torque of 91Nm and a no-load speed of 2000rpm.The Makita DHP458 cordless combi drill / driver is an extremely compact tool with an overall length of 225mm the shortest in its class with high power and productivity achieved with new DC motor (FD31-30). Perhaps one last question from me - I have the option of higher torque brushed motor versus lower torque brushless motor on the Makita - I have zero experience with the BL motors. The 2 speed metal gearbox, with a no load speed of 2000 RPM, allows for drilling in almost all materials and the hammer feature, at 30000 blows per minute, allows for the drilling of holes in masonry as well.

The DHP484 has slightly better RPM, this will help give it better performance in general drilling and if using as a screwdriver. It has three operating modes for standard high speed drilling in metal and wood, hammer for masonry drilling and ‘driving’ for screwing in screws. Powered by an 18V LXT slide type battery, with variable speed control and 2 mechanical gears, for a wide range of drilling, fastening and hammer drilling applications. These bits can tackle a variety of drilling applications, so you have more options as to how you approach your work. The all-metal, keyless chuck was of particular note, as many plastic chucks require constant retightening. Thinking whatever to get the dhp481 or try to stretch out my dying 458 a little bit more in hopes makita releases something new very soon. I don't use these daily as it's mainly for work around the house, but since it's a long term "investment" I think the higher end version would be better for me. A powerful drill for professional screwdriving and drilling with or without hammer action, two power settings.
