With a large 100mm (4”) objective lens, this telescope has enough light gathering ability to bring out impressive detail in celestial objects. You can expect sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, its cloud bands and Great Red Spot, the rings of Saturn, the trapezium in the Orion Nebula, and beautiful Ple ia des Open Star Cluster. Celestron’s XLT optical coatings improve light transmission, enhancing the views even more. All in all i cant find a bad thing about it. It seems ideal for a kid of 8. The Kellner eyepieces may not be the greatest in the world (it takes time to find out what works best for you) but they will do for now and work very well. As Doug said above, a 32-40mm Plossl eyepiece (1.25") will be a good addition and it will allow a wider view and make it easier to find your way around. The lens cap has an integrated smartphone adapter built into it. Place your smartphone against the rubberized friction surface on the outside of the cap so your camera is viewing through the imaging port. Secure the smartphone using the two adjustable bungee cords. The inside of the lens cap has a fitting that secures to your eyepiece using two set screws. Voila! You are now ready to take high power images through the telescope. With the Inspire 100AZ, it’s easy to see Saturn’s rings, the Cassini Division inside them, and a few cloud bands on the planet itself, though they aren’t very colorful and just look like symmetrical stripes. A few of Saturn’s moons can also be seen, with Titan being the brightest among them. Rhea, Tethys, and Dione are easy to spot; Enceladus and Iapetus are tougher. The Celestron Inspire 100AZ has an aperture of 100mm, the widest out of the Inspire range. This wide aperture is perfectly suited for observing deep-space objects as it provides a bright view of the night sky. A 90° erect image diagonal is provided with the telescope. A used Inspire 100AZ is a nice scope, though if poorly maintained, it’s very possible the scope could have irreparable damage thanks to its multitude of plastic components. Barring that, however, a used Inspire 100AZ will be fine if you can get it for a reasonable price-our recommendation is to never pay more than 80% of the new cost for a new telescope, eyepiece, or piece of astronomical gear. The Zhumell Z100 and Sky-Watcher Heritage 100P technically have slightly less light-gathering ability than the Inspire 100AZ, but don’t suffer from chromatic aberration and are much easier to aim. The shorter focal length and resultingly wider field of view helps, too.A Rigel Quikfinder is essentially just a superior version of the StarPointer Pro and attaches to the tube with adhesive tape, so you could use it in conjunction with a 9×50 finder if you wish. A Telrad is unfortunately too large to really fit on the Inspire 100AZ. What can you see with Celestron Inspire 100AZ? There are plenty of keen amateur astronomers who love watching the stars and know how to handle a telescope, but can't quite stretch to the price of a high-end device. Enter the mid-range or intermediate telescope. A Plossl design would perform well, but these have little eye relief at higher powers. The erect image diagonal ensures that all of the images are upright when you are looking through the telescope. Without it, refractor telescopes naturally display images upside down due to the way they collect light and process images. This also makes it so you can technically use this telescope as a terrestrial scope where you can take a look at things right here on Earth as well. Just make sure never to look at the sun if you are using it during the day!
