About this deal

The company’s customer service is generally awesome. If you have a problem they will fix it. It’s actually a part of Baratza’s philosophy to design their grinders so they can easily be repaired. That’s pretty rare among appliance manufacturers. The Encore is ideal for pour over. Baratza Encore Grinder Review The Encore’s settings include a manual on-off dial switch and a pulse button. The grind selection has 40 degrees of adjustment, which you choose by rotating the hopper. Coarseness ranges from 250 to 1200 microns, which is versatile enough for popular home methods such as manual pour-over, automatic drip, Chemex, and AeroPress. Beyond a great coffee-making experience, the Encore lets you explore new coffee flavours. With 40 individual grind settings, you can find the perfect grind size for all brewing methods. The hopper can hold 8 ounces of whole beans, and the clear grounds bin has a fill line to indicate how much to grind. We intentionally designed the Encore to fit nicely under most kitchen cabinets without sacrificing power or quality and to bring value to your daily grind. The best manual grinders can serve you well if you prefer espresso or want top quality for a tight budget. However, most of the alternatives included in this list are for electric burr grinders. The Baratza Encore is slimline and super convenient. We love the Baratza Encore’s straightforward controls, which make your daily brew experience simple. A front-mounted pulse button makes it easy to grind on demand into your brew basket. With an 8oz clear grounds bin, you never need to grind more than you’ll actually use (hooray for no stale coffee!) Plus, its clever design minimises the grounds left behind in the grinder. The burrs are easily removable with no tools, making cleaning very easy, and it fits nicely under most kitchen cabinets without sacrificing power or quality.

You may find it difficult using the Encore if you use coffee beans that are larger than average. Bigger beans don’t feed through the hopper as well as regular-sized beans, which could result in some loose beans left over. Build Quality The Baratza Encore is an entry-level burr grinder that offers good quality, consistency, and durability. After using it for around two years daily, I learned that the value you get for the price of this grinder is nearly unbeatable, although it’s far from perfect. Messy: It makes a bit of a mess when the grounds bin is removed because of static electricity building up. You only make espresso: Serious espresso enthusiasts should invest in a dedicated espresso grinder with a finer grind adjustment, even if it costs a bit more. The popular Baratza Sette 270 has 270 grind settings. Or splurge on the Eureka Mignon Silenzio, which has an infinite stepless adjustment. And, of course, the Encore is built with the quality Baratza parts you've come to trust. The efficient DC motor keeps your beans cool, even during extended grind times, while a combination of electric and gear speed reducers slow the burr to 450 RPM, ensuring a smooth bean feed and reducing noise, heat and static buildup. The obvious downside is that making grind adjustment steps smaller in the espresso range requires larger ones in the filter range. As you can see in the graph below, once you pass the 0-20 range for espresso, and enter the drip ranges, you get less adjustability. So, you can’t dial your drip brews as precisely, which may or may not be a big deal depending on your brewing style. Baratza was established in 1999 and make grinders, only grinders, great grinders. These grinders are made for value and built to last and are very popular among coffee fans around the world.

Baratza has an excellent reputation for customer care, so if anything goes wrong with your Encore ESP, you can expect prompt service. It is easy to buy replacement parts. The trade-off between build quality and low price is appropriate here. Ease of Use – 4/5Yet to be determined, but if the Encore delivers on a decent espresso grind, this can only be a good thing. Combining this with the fact that the price point will be the same as the Maestro Plus, Baratza has just cemented their place as the uncontested choice when it comes to great value home grinders. The single most important consideration in purchasing a coffee grinder is grind consistency. To summarize a lot of technical theory, basically the more consistent the particle sizes of the ground coffee the more even the extraction and the nicer the taste. This is the reason that any coffee lover worth his or her salt will warn you that blade grinders are to be avoided at all costs. It’s not simply a matter of snobbery (although there may be traces of this), but instead it is because blade grinders cut the coffee beans rather haphazardly and thus produce highly inconsistent particle sizes.

Compared to other home grinders, it’s hard to miss the price gap between the Baratza Encore and cheaper products like the Cuisinart and Bodum. The Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder has it covered. Lauded by coffee experts as THE go-to entry level grinder for home brewing, the Encore has 40 individual grind settings, from fine to coarse (250 to 1200 microns). So whether your brew of choice is the French Press or the espresso, the Baratza Encore provides consistent grinds for both – and everything in between – giving you the chance to experiment and explore your taste preference. The Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder Is Compact and convenient Espresso is generally the finest grind of coffee. You make espresso with a fancy machine which heats water perfectly, pressurizes it through a basket, and usually steams milk too. One point I need to make in this Baratza Encore review is that this isn’t really the grinder for that, according to every source I consulted. We repeat: Baratza Encore + Espresso don’t really go together. In comparison, I noticed that using the single-dose hopper produces fewer fines and it’s more consistent. Most likely, because the single-dose hopper prevents the popcorning effect. Usability As mentioned before, the Encore is an entry-level burr grinder, but that doesn’t prevent it from delivering strong performance and durability.

Exact same trusted functionality with a sleek new exterior! The Baratza Encore is the ultimate entry-level grinder for your craft coffee journey - the key difference to the taste in your cup. When you’re weighing the Baratza Encore vs. the Virtuoso, you are starting with two solid performers for home specialty coffee. They differ primarily in ways that reflect their respective market positions as entry-level and mid-range grinders. Grind qualityThe Encore offers manual controls that should suffice if you don’t need to time your grind. It works well for average home volumes as grind consistency doesn’t quite match the Virtuoso’s output. Well, not exactly. It might be broken now, or you just realized you want something better. If that’s your case, the Baratza Encore is an excellent option. Recently, this got me thinking about the wing nut on top of the cone burr. Most people assume that it’s there to keep the upper burr in place. But that’s actually not the reason. With a 40-step grind-size adjustment, the Encore is capable of grinding from 250 microns to 1200 microns. This means that it can churn out an espresso grind just as easily as it can produce a French Press grind. It can even handle the extra-coarse grind required for cold brew. For an entry-level grinder, that’s more than enough to cover all brewing styles. The Encore features a manual on-off dial switch on the side panel and a front-mounted button to pulse-dose small amounts or directly into a portafilter. It does not have a timer.
