About this deal

Moore’s template for the Santa that he drew through his poetry soon replaced the centuries old characteristic depictions of St. Nicholas of Europe. The poem also influenced the ideas of Christmas Eve gifting and is believed to have popularized the concept of Santa visiting homes on Christmas Eve bearing gifts in America. The Night Before Christmas is collected in Village Evenings Near Dikanka and Mirgorod, it is also published as a standalone novella in translation by Anna Summers, and works quite well as a single sitting read as snow flutters outside your window on a dark winter’s night. But is it the evening arriving early that has made it dark or have you crossed the Devil and he has stolen the moon from the sky as he does here… All the excitement and anticipation of Christmas Eve is captured in this magical version of this popular festive verse. Her detailed illustrations depict a nostalgic, snow-covered world that sparkles with elegance and flair. A classic book that will become a cherished part of many a family Christmas, and begs to be reread year after year as a much-loved festive tradition. It was so worth the wait. As soon as I got in from work I sat myself down with the book and a cup of tea and didn’t stop reading until I’d read every last word. Kay is, without any shadow of a doubt, hilarious. He relays his experiences of his six Christmases as an NHS doctor with so much candour that you feel like he’s talking directly to you.

i'm not sure how to review this, because it's just the night before christmas, but since i feel compelled to review all the books i read ever, i am just putting it out there that this is a wonderful christmas present to receive, and reading it on christmas eve with a giant mug of cocoa is a pretty nice way to spend a few minutes. I’m sure everyone that doesn’t work in the profession doesn’t really give two thoughts to everyone having to work over the Christmas period, yet we would still expect them to be there if we needed them, and they are. They are all deserving of praise and thanks. I liked his suggestion at the end to send a card to any medical staff we may have dealt with throughout the year. I’m certainly going to take his advice and send one to my gynaecologist who has been an absolute superstar for me this year and last. Sorry the pics aren’t the greatest. I have to go to the computer now to upload my own pics so I got the ones out in the ethos! Nadie supo en Dikanka cómo el diablo robó la Luna. Bien es verdad que el escribiente de la comarca, cuando salió de la taberna tambaleándose, dijo, y no sabemos por qué, que la veía bailar en el cielo. As a girl, Moore's mother, Charity Clarke, wrote letters to her English cousins that are preserved at Columbia University and show her disdain for the policies of the English Monarchy and her growing sense of patriotism in pre-revolutionary days. This is my first reading experience of Nikolai Gogol. I may have not approached him with his best work (which my instinct tells me), but this is still a good introduction to his work. I was really impressed with his writing. It has a simple elegance with a touch of satire. And I like the way he tells his story; it is captivating. I can easily put him on par with Dostoevsky and Tolstoy for his skill at story-telling. My Penguin Classic edition has a small synopsis in the beginning of the book, and I quote, "The Night Before Christmas is still read aloud to children on Christmas Eve in Ukraine and Russia". Simarliy, Clement C. Moore's book is still read aloud to American children and probably to a whole host of children of different nationalities, including Ukrainen and Russian. Moore's book is sweet. Gogol's is a bit dark, especially for children. Gogol wrote another children's book that I read recently called "Sorotchintzy Fair". The book is similar to his "The Night Before Christmas", for it's a story of good and evil, which basically that's what Gogol's "Night Before Christmas" is all about.

This is one of my most treasured Christmas books to read over the holiday season, particularly on Christmas Eve. I believe most people already know the classic poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Clement C. Moore, and I just reviewed another vintage edition that we read every year, but this version is also grand. This picture book contains beautiful illustrations that are lifelike and enchanting. It's one to keep. Moore gained considerable wealth by subdividing and developing other parts of his large inherited estate in what became known as the residential neighborhood of Chelsea. Before this, the urbanized part of the city ended at Houston Street on Manhattan island. For 10 years, Moore also served as a board member of the New York Institution for the Blind. There it is: the reindeer have names – names that will live on as long as December 25th is celebrated as a holiday. We all must pass through those wonderful golden gates of childhood, never to return again. Reading, tales and fairy tales and other fantasies will live and build wonderful memories from childhood that we carry forward to pass on to the next generation. We must make sure that our children have happy memories. Love. . . is reading to your child at bedtime! The fourth in the aeries, The Night Before Christmas follows Walker as he tries to find four hikers on Christmas eve. It soon comes to light that those missing have something to hide, and they aren’t the only ones…

So it was Moore who started this idea of children to believe in Santa Claus. Did he do us a favor? Or is it high time that we stop this crap altogether?
