About this deal

Fully illustrated throughout and full of heart, laughs and surprises, this is the must-read third title in the bestselling and fantastically funny Grimwood series.

When an exterminator starts spreading false rumours of deadly spiders on the loose, Milton and his arachnid friends fear for their lives. Will they be able to convince the humans they live with that they're perfectly harmless? A warm, funny tale. With regular interjections from Eric Dynamite (woodlouse) popping up and adding comments along the way, it's a story centred around two young foxes, brother and sister Ted and Nancy, parentless. But also gives us chapters from the perspectives of various animals around Grimwood, then brings the plots together.Grimwood is a forest far, far, faaaaar away. It’s full of trees and sky and mud and stones. It smells weird and there’s loads of litter and old shopping trolleys. But it’s also FUN and GREAT and it’s where scruffy fox cub siblings from the Big City, Ted and Nancy, have made their home with their crazy new gang of woodland friends.

This book is full of unkind words, bad behavior, revenge, animal on animal cruelty (human personas) and violence. Would never let my kids read this, at ANY age. Such a HORRIBLE example of how to treat others. También es cierto que la historia no se anda con tonterías y si tienen que acabar con alguien que quiere hacerles daño va a por todas.Laugh your head off with this fully-illustrated new series from award-winning Nadia Shireen. Perfect for readers age 7 to 107, fans of Dog Man, Roald Dahl, Mr Gum and David Walliams, and anyone who loves to laugh. Nadia Shireen has won awards for her picture books including the UKLA Book Award for Good Little Wolf and most recently for Barbara Throws a Wobbler, which has been described as a ‘little doorway of joy’ by Caitlin Moran. She’s also been shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, and has been Writer-Illustrator in Residence for BookTrust. Grimwood is her first series for older readers and has been shortlisted for the 2022 Branford Boase Award and the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards.

Perfect for readers age 7+, and fans of Dog Man, Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good, Bunny vs Monkey and anyone who likes to laugh. This starts off cute enough with orphan foxes (well that’s kinda sad), and we learn that the young sibling foxes have a feud with the neighborhood cats. Ok, I can hang with that…what I can’t hang with is the name calling hurling insults, threats of physical violence and then the ACTUAL violence. In the process of this fued, the cat “looses” (by way of the fox) her tail and it gets nailed to the wall of the foxes den. Then the appendage is used to tease the cat and ultimately distract the cat while a bird comes down and decapitates said cat. WHAT?! WHY?! When two young foxes who have no parents around are just going about their daily lives, they could never guess at just how much trouble could come from biting down on what appeared to be a hot dog. Ultimately this book sees the two foxes move from their inner city life and head to the forests of Grimwood with no idea on what exactly to expect as they are simply given a map and told to head there following the hot dog incident. In Grimwood there are numerous animal friends and foes to be met and it is a great adventure for the foxes themselves but also for the reader too.

It doesn't really matter what the plot is, though the foxes are trying to keep out of the cat's way and must use any new friends they have to help them. The point is that it's a funny trip into an animal world of quirky silliness, with the narrator taking great pleasure in all the voices. Hilarant! Grimwood is where I want to be. A carnival of crazed confused comical critters that is more real than real life. Lots of things make me laugh but Grimwood makes me laugh out loudest.' Frank Cottrell-Boyce Nancy is the tough one, and fiercely protective of her little brother Ted, who is a rather gentle soul. Yet, when Ted accidentally bites scary cat Princess Buttons’ tail off, the two foxes need somewhere to lie low. What better place than Grimwood, a faraway forest whose furry denizens play endless games of Treebonk, and tough talking bunnies frisk under shady trees? The inside of Nadia Shireen's brain must be a fun place to be because there are SO MANY funny jokes and hilarious moments in Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly! GO read it now!' Maisie Chan, author of Branford Boase winning Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths

Die tierischen Charaktere sind im positiven Sinne vermenschlicht, können sprechen und der Leser kann sich sehr leicht in sie hineinversetzen. Nadia Shireen has won awards for her picture books including the UKLA Book Award for Good Little Wolf, and her latest, Barbara Throws a Wobbler, has been described as a ‘little doorway of joy’ by Caitlin Moran. Grimwood is her first series for older readers. seda kiideti kui erakordselt naljakat raamatut, aga ma ei naernud kordagi. midagi vastumeelset siin ka polnud, aga lihtsalt ei olnud sedasorti huumor, mis mulle nalja teeks, ja ma ei saa p2riselt aru, millistele t2iskasvanud inimestele teeb. lihtsalt yks selline lasteraamat, mis ongi lastele m6eldud ja loodetavasti neil on tore. Easily the best kids book I've read in a long, long time. I mean, it's straight up one of the funniest books I've ever read.Shireen’s latest book confirms her as one of the brightest and best picture book creators working in Britain today ... Sensational.' ― Observer
