About this deal

Leaving aside the aux input which can be found in some other cheap guitar amps, I think the Pathfinder offers enough for any beginner. Of course, having at least a basic delay or reverb would’ve been nice but Vox had other plans for this one. Portability and Usability No longer in production, these amps almost immediately became a sought after collectible as soon as they were discontinued. They're becoming harder and harder to find in good condition, and have even been going up in price, so snag this excellent example today! There’re other small details, like white and gold bindings on the side that captures the legendary Vox looks. There’s not much going on in the input/output section. Here we find a simple offering with an XLR input for your guitar, plus a headphone out / line out for silent practice.

This was one of my favorite amps from Vox, despite it's low price. It has all the vintage style Vox cosmetics right, including gold string in the cabinet sides, top, and bottom. Later Vox models in the low to mid price range would drop the use of gold string. Also, given that there is absolutely zero FX provided to embellish the sound, you might find it difficult to dial in the tones that you like. You can also use the output as a direct recording option. That means you can plug an XLR-to-XLR cable into your audio interface or console and record with your computer. A modern classic from VOX. This amp has a great reputation for a good reason. It sounds awesome! The tone is true VOX and you can nail that Brian May or early Beatles sound with this amp. That said, you can play with a pristine clean tone, or you can end up with a supersaturated sound by simply dialing up the gain knob on the clean channel. Playing on clean with a full gain sounds like the drive channel with a slight gain.

The overdrive channel had a mixed response. Some people found it perfectly usable while others clearly warned us to abstain from using it. Even without those features, this amplifier remains an excellent model for the price. Its sound is incredible for a tiny ten watt, it’s loud enough for practice, and you can refine your tone to get the perfect sound. Plus, it looks absolutely gorgeous. A guitar amplifier this small and light can sit at the top of your desk easily. That’s an important factor. I/O section On the downside, people did point out that there are limited features and a few cons to this amp. Several practice amps feature things like reverb and other effects, while the Pathfinder 10 keeps things incredibly simple. Several customers thought that the higher-end sound is the tradeoff for these features, while others didn’t need them for their playing style.

I can recommend it to any beginner who needs a simple-to-use amp with versatile clean and crunch sound. There’s also a line out on this model that you can use with headphones or for recording purposes. Outputs like this one aren’t commonplace for amplifiers in this class, which makes this model even more appealing. The VOX Pathfinder 10 is designed as a basic beginner amp so you won’t find fancy effects o r stuff like built-in looper on this one. The built-in tremolo effect is as good as a boutique tremolo pedal for which you would pay as much as this amp.

We give the Vox Pathfinder 10 a solid four out of five stars. It’s an excellent practice amp, though we do see some room for improvement. Here’s how we came to that conclusion. Everyone agreed that this wasn’t the loudest amp out there, but most use it for playing in a single room of the house. As a practice amp, customers think this is an excellent buy for the features and price. Some users also found the larger size and weight to be something they liked. Naturally, the clean channel is what you would use to drive your distortion pedals. Otherwise, you can rely on the amplifier’s distortion to use your modulation effects. Interested In This Item? While 10 watts might not be a lot in the realm of guitar amplifiers, the Pathfinder produces ample sound in smaller spaces. You can’t wow a stadium with it, but it is loud enough to annoy the neighbors. Due to its more diminutive stature, this model is best for casual use and more intimate gigs.As for the sound, you can expect the usual bright and chime-like tones that Vox is known for. The Pathfinder is excellent for clean playing styles from folk to blues, but it can also handle an intense level of heaviness. I even paired this amp with a Behringer UM-300 but the results were not much better. Some metal tones were clearly better with this combo but it gets too fuzzy very easily. The Pathfinder 15R was a small solid state 1x8" 15 watt combo amp that was introduced by Vox in 2000. This amp was an updated version of the Pathfinder without reverb that was originally introduced by Vox in 1999. That amp disappeared shortly after the Pathfinder 15Rwas introduced. After more than twelve years of production, Vox finally retired the P15RPathfinder Reverb in January 2013. Its distinctive top panel features a Gain Boost switch plus controls for Volume, Gain, Treble, Bass, Tremolo Speed, and Tremolo Depth. Both the boost and tremolo are footswitchable via an optional VFS2 dual footswitch, offering you even more performance power. (Footswitch not included.)

Keep in mind that you don’t need an electric guitar to use this amp. It’s capabilities fully extend to an electro-acoustic, which can take full advantage of the clean sounding features on this Vox. The combo is one that many choose to use for smaller gigs. Although solid state, this amp had an amazing tube like tone. In addition to Gain, Volume, Treble, and Bass Controls, the P15R even includes Tremolo and spring based Reverb. A Boost switch dramatically increases gain and overdrive.Such is the concept of the amp, and the ease-of-use it presents becomes pretty attractive for beginners and musicians on a budget. But if you need a more portable amp or you’re a metalhead, then there are better options available for both. Is Vox Pathfinder 10 a Tube Amp? Vox driven tone, so if it is your thing, you won’t be disappointed. If smooth overdrive is your thing, don’t For a 10-watt practice amp, the controls are exactly what we expect. Most models in this class feature simple EQ, gain, and overdrive features. While you can’t do a whole lot with those, they’re more than enough for practicing or learning how to play.
