My verdict: I followed the advice to mix two parts bicarb with one part water to make a paste and worked the solution into the stain, starting with a fairly dark ring mark. It was ineffective on this stain. It ensures that the treated area matches the rest of the piece of furniture or flooring and restores its protective finish to help prevent future damage. The verdict: This one was a bit hit and miss in all honesty. While it did nothing on the ingrained dark water stain, I did have huge success in removing white water rings from some bedside tables and all it took was a gentle rub. It also made a difference to some light water stains on the wooden frame of our bi fold doors so definintely worth a go on lighter, fresher stains. Important –Always test the product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end results. Sand the area: Use fine-grit sandpaper to gently sand the burn mark, either by hand or by using a sanding tool. This removes the top layer of the wood and is excellent for dealing with surface-level burns. Be careful not to sand too aggressively, as this can damage the wood further and leave an uneven surface. If, like many others, you are keen to keep your home chemical-free, you will be pleased to learn that many of the methods of removing water stains from wood can be carried out with natural products alone —kinder on you and the planet. If the mark does not disappear apply more Ring Remover to the cloth and continue to rub this in until the mark is removed. Next, rub the mark gently until you can no longer see the stain. You may need to buff the wood afterwards to remove subtle scratches, but as long as you avoid applying too much pressure, this method shouldn’t cause any lasting damage. Fold the tea towel in half and place it directly over the stain to protect the surface against scorching.

Vinegar and olive oil: Mix equal parts of white vinegar and olive oil in a bowl. Dip a clean microfibre cloth in the mixture and use it to apply it to the stain, rubbing gently in the direction of the wood grain. Let the cleaning solution sit for a few hours or overnight, then wipe it off. The stain should be lighter and less noticeable. In fact, it’s key to maintaining the beauty of your wooden furniture and floors. Here are some top tips you can employ to protect your wooden surfaces: Hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate of soda: Create a strong cleaning paste by mixing 3% hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate of soda. Apply the paste to the stain, cover it with plastic wrap, leave it for a few hours, and then wipe it away. Hydrogen peroxide should clean away deep-set stains and dry the wood out, preventing moisture stains at the same time. The ring remover can cause a slight shiny area once used. If you are using this on a satin or matt finish, simply use the 0000 wire wool to gently rub over the shiny area to dull it slightly. We would recommend to always finish by coating with a wax. If the finish on your wooden table is soluble in ethanol, such as shellac, you can remove heat marks by reintroducing alcohol to the wood. This will re-saturate it and allow the moisture to escape. Shake the container well before use. Apply Liberon Ring Remover using a clean, lint-free cotton cloth and rub vigorously in a circular motion over the mark until it is removed. Then rub over the surface in strait motions in the direction of the grain. You may need to then use the ring remover over the entire section to get an even shine. Buff with a clean, dry cotton cloth then wax or polish as normal. cup ring mark being removed finished surface The ironing method made little difference to this stain —and there were no significant changes to the white stains either.
