About this deal

As someone who spends his day knee-deep in piles of golf shoes, I tend to notice the little things that others may not. One of my biggest takeaways about the golf shoe industry as a whole is their propensity to sacrifice function in the name of branding. The Alphacat Nitro design features a new and innovative NITRO FOAM material, which is infused with nitrogen gas to create exceptional cushioning and energy return with every step. The newly designed material is also extremely lightweight, allowing for an energy saving design. The reason for this is because golf shoe technology is so good these days that golfers can experience the relaxed, lightweight comfort that these shoes offer, without losing out on traction or support in comparison to a spiked option.

The shoe's upper is an EXO shell made up of an engendered mesh complete with TPU film, giving the shoe added structure and support whilst ensuring that it is waterproof, with a one-year guarantee. The latest of these is the new Proadapt Alphacat, which Puma says is the 'King of Comfort' and is designed to provide the 'Alpha' of all spikeless shoes. What's It All About? The Proadapt outsole not only looks cool but also does an important job of providing traction on both soft and hard surfaces due to the two distinct patterns. PUMA have always been a front runner when pushing the boundaries to design trendy yet functional golf shoes and the GS-Fast, an update on their much talked about RS-G Golf Shoes, certainly continues that trend. These are a statement shoe for those players wanting to complete a streetwear look on the course. Admittedly these shoes will not be everyone's cup of tea and we did get several comments about them from playing partners and other members of the golf course when we first tested them out. Many players choose to have one pair for winter and another, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and suit different requirements.

Put these two together, then, and you get a shoe which should give you the confidence to swing as hard as you like regardless of the lie or course conditions. The multi-material PROADAPT outsole combines a high-durometer, abrasion resistant TPU perimeter chassis that provides a stable underfoot feel with multiple shapes of lugs providing excellent ground-gripping traction. Centralised Crystal Rubber engineered in an anatomic shape for an easy heel-to-toe ride provides grip on any surface protecting you from slipping while on the course, the clubhouse, and anywhere in between. Having said that, the new upper was firmer than in the Pwradapt Caged and this then provided a nice balance between a shoe that is ideal for use during the summer when the weather is better, but still gives you the support that you need.

To be honest, once I was out on the course I couldn't really feel anything different with this traction compared to a usual pair of spikeless shoes, but I completed my round of golf without any slips or feelings of instability despite playing from a variety of different lies.

If you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain then a waterproof shoe is a must. The best designs will keep your feet bone dry however if you play golf in glorious sunshine most of the time, then you may view other factors as more significant. The laces are attached to the TPU section of the shoe to ensure that the shoe's outer body is brought towards your foot when you tighten them. I put mine on twenty minutes before the round during my testing and even kept them on whilst we waited out a weather delay in the clubhouse, and the Alphacat were just as comfortable on the course as they were while I ate my club sandwich and chips! I mentioned that the biggest change to the ALPHACAT NITRO is the addition of PUMA’s flagship NITRO foam. Often found on the brand’s running line, NITRO is an extremely lightweight but stable foam.

This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on. On the sole, the contrast of the grey and orange lugs is a nice eye-catching feature which you get glimpses of whilst walking or in the follow through, as well as providing a handy visual indication of where Puma's traction technology is helping you out.Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO Golf Shoes: Tech Talk

Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility. They are perfect for driving in the car to the golf course, playing a round, and then driving home again because they are usually light and comfortable, but most won't offer as much traction as a spiked shoe.

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides . You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised. What We Tried: The resulting traction is grippy in all directions. I have no real complaints here. As far as spikeless traction is concerned, the PUMA ALPHACAT NITRO is a solid performer. Functional and Fashionable Heel Cup Our range of GS-Fast golf shoes take design inspiration from our much-loved “RS” line of trainers, but for GS we’ve added golf twist. With an outsole designed to offer superb traction, you can keep your foot-in whether you’re on tee-ing off or playing out of the bunker. Like most of our golf shoes, the GS-Fast are also constructed with a fully waterproof upper to keep your feet dry and comfortable even in adverse conditions.
