About this deal

A waist pouch attached to the belt allows you to carry some belongings with you, which I found really useful for my phone as well as treats for my dog. The lead itself has a bungee centre to ensure comfort for you and your dog if they pull suddenly. 2 handles on the lead offer control: 1 at the top so you can redirect your dog, and 1 near your dog for extra control when you need it. Leather and metal tend to not be particularly good choices for training, as both tend to be an aesthetic choice rather than a controlled one. Not only are they more expensive but leather is more breakable than nylon ann biothane, while metal options have too little give and could be painful when yanked. After lead length, the other most important thing to consider is the type of collar or harness you are using.

We manufacture and sell two types of training leads, and both leads were designed in house by ourselves and tried and tested by gundog trainers and dog behaviourists. First is our 10 metre lead, whilst the leads provide extra length, great care was taken to ensure the lead’s weight was kept to the absolute minimum whilst maintaining the strength and quality so owners can remain in full control. The 10 metre lead is a 2 in 1 lead, meaning it can be shortened and be used as a 5 metre training lead too. The lead was made of such good quality that if it gets wet no panic just pop it in the airing cupboard or on the washing the line and a few hours later you’re ready to take your dog about again after it’s rest and feed. So I had a look and rang a lady called Sarah asking for advice which was duly given in a friendly and not condescending way and a 15 m lead arrived with a couple of days…it was well made, nice and wide at 25mm with good quality clips, padded handle and a brilliant new to me but so simple and obvious”double up” which basically means if you start with a 7.5m lead you can immediately let it out to 15m(hence the double up) to give your pooch a nice long run and still be in control…and vice versa. Rather than just pulling the end of the long line when you need to stop your dog you can grip and release the long line using the hand closest to the dog which will slow them down gently to a stop. Choosing a lead made from high-quality material means it’s likely to last longer and stand up to wear. You should also consider the type of material: For example, nylon leads tend to be more affordable and are generally fairly strong. If you have a large breed dog who pulls, a chain or rope lead might be more suitable as they tend to be stronger and more durable. DurabilityAt 2m in length, it’s slightly longer than standard short training leashes, but it’s strength and durability make it far and away the most robust lead on this whole list.

metres – same as 20 metres, also good for wide open space and beach use. Again, this length is ideal for dogs who are rarely or never allowed off the lead. Popular with Sighthounds, Huskies Beagles etc What is the training lead made of?Our favourite lead for short-distance and loose-lead walking training is the Hunter Freestyle Collar & Lead Set. Having tight control is the most important thing when lead training and for those of us not blessed with the rippling muscles of The Terminator, we need the lead to do most of the work! Usage technique no. 2 – more like horse lunging and you can see in the images above that with the lead wound up, you can also lengthen and shorten as required. Quality of life benefits for your dog with the Dog Training Lead

This product is a great longer training lead for dogs. Ideal for general exercise too. They are soft on your hands, strong and affordable. A well-cared-for Meg K9 product will last a number of years.Long-line leads are great in big open spaces, but it’s important to be aware of your surroundings as they can be a trip hazard for others and can get caught up in the environment around you. Be aware of what’s around you when allowing your dog freedom on the long line. If your dog runs for something and you are caught off guard not holding the line properly it could run through your hands and cause an injury. If you need a hands-free lead for running or hiking, the LANNEY Hands-Free Dog Lead is a perfect choice. The belt is adjustable and wide to ensure comfort during wear. Dual sliding D rings on either side of the belt mean you can decide where you want to attach the lead, or can even walk 2 dogs at once. Long-lines come in a variety of lengths, from 3 metres all the way up to 30, and it’s important to take the time to get used to holding them properly. They usually have a handle at the end, but you can buy ones without. Long-line leads are a fixed length and are more robust than the retractable long leads you can also buy. They also come in different materials for different sized dogs. For example, a light-weight fabric long-line would be more suitable for a small dog as it won’t weigh them down, but for a larger dog you could look at a biothane, grippy material or a heavy-duty webbing as it’s more robust. Whatever you choose, it’s important to make sure you can hold it comfortably in your hand and that if it pulls through your fingers it’s not going to hurt you.

Teaching a dog to walk in tandem with you on a lead in a relaxed manner, rather than them pulling on the lead and dictating the journey themselves! Important Things To Consider Lead Length Long-line leads are great for teaching your dog behaviours like a recall in a safe, controlled way. You can find out more about that in our teach your dog a recall video. A nice handle makes the world of difference for owners and without one, a sharp yank or pull could result in some seriously painful rope burn from your lead!If you or your dog do start to get tangled, try to stop your dog from moving. If they’re food motivated, throw some treats on the floor to divert their attention and keep them still while you untangle. Partnering up a perfect pooch training lead with an even better collar, this heavy-duty polyamide set from Hunter is an idyllically crafted anti-pull leash that is superb for close-quarters lead training.
