Absima LiPo Battery Next we have a LiPo battery from Absima. Its 4200 name reflects its 4200mAh/31.1Wh rating that is less clearly labelled. The finer details are listed at the end of the label 7.4v (2 cell) LiPo technology with a 25C burst rate. Bearing Upgrade: These make the car run more smoothly and are easily installed during assembly. If there is no option for these shown, then the kit already includes the bearing upgrade as standard. These are entirely optional.Now you do have choices, you can opt for a brushless setup, or in my case as I had lots of spares from my racing days, fit a hotter brushed motor. My LB is currently running a 12T Hex brushed motor.
Turnigy Nano-Tech LiPo battery Lastly this Turnigy Nano-Tech battery with its label offers a lot of information. The 35-70c labelling suggests it can be discharged continuously up to 35C and for short surges up to 70C, offering a little more detail to the 'high discharge Li-Po battery' marking below. On the right we can see that the 3 cell option has been marked, denoting that it features a 3-cell 11.1 volt setup. This high-end battery would be ideal for a high-load RC car, such as our brushless converted Traxxas Defender. Often called banana plugs, these are commonly found on charger adapter leads rather than batteries. Available in a range of diameters the larger sizes can support high current, but attention must be paid when connecting them to ensure they are the correct way round.

Now that we have an understanding of some of the basics, we can select the right battery. On a simple level, this boils down to a few variables: cost, connector, compatibility and dimensions. I recently bought a Turnigy SCT 2wd, these are cheap kits, cheaper than the LB, but they are easily 2 or 3 times better in every single way. Please note: These ‘ready to run bundles’ includes everything you need to operate this model once the kit is built. This is a kit which will require building. This model comes with a white shell. Please see our Tamiya Paint range for colours available. N.B. The bodyshell is white abs plastic as supplied so paint is needed to finish the model (a full decal sheet is included). I'm not saying I don't like or enjoy my Tamiya Lunchbox, but rationally it is quite rubbish as an RC vehicle and if anyone but Tamiya sold it, it would be laughed at for how crap it is.
ESC: This is the connection between the radio system and the motor. You have several choices. The standard Tamiya unit is currently unavailable due to the chip shortage, so Tamiya are offering a choice of a Tamiya Hobbywing or Carson Dragster (Tamiya Germany) units. Where a model number is shown (e.g. 20 or 15) that is the motor capacity of the unit - the lower the number, the more powerful a motor you can install later. All work with the motor in the kit.These high current connectors are popular with drone pilots are simple to use and are keyed to avoid incorrect connection. If you upgrade to a LiPo it does make it perform much better, I have to say I was really quite impressed with the performance improvement. And this is the sort of performance Tamiya should be providing straight out of the box. The first classic Tamiya model to join the X-SA series is the Lunch Box, favoured basher or many R/C fans and offering an all-around fun 2wd on those iconic bulging tires.
