BLOATER PASTE From 1922: Take 3 red herrings (large), 1 well-beaten egg, ¼ lb. butter, 2 tablespoonfuls of milk, a little cayenne. Soak the herrings in boiling water for a few minutes, skin and bone them, mix to a smooth paste (or put through a mincer), place in a saucepan with other ingredients, and boil for three minutes. Charles Shippam, who was the owner of family business Shippam’s Paste, lived at Priory Cottage, Boxgrove, Chichester, and was a prominent rights of way campaigner. What is meat paste called?
