About this deal

This might be an Advanced Reader Copy thing, but distinguishing between Alice and Tim's POV was so annoying! There were no asterisks or names in bold at the beginning of a new POV, nothing to indicate a switch. Maybe this will be fixed in the final copy. He's [the Obvious Dad] even got Tim's pot plant in with his own plants, giving it Miracle-Gro. What kind of man was young in the eighties and doesn't recognize marijuana?" Over the summer, Samantha becomes close with Jase and his family… almost becoming one of them. But she also has to deal with friendship problems with her friends Nan and Tim, juggle her two summer jobs, and learn to accept her mother's new boyfriend. The Boy Next Door is a delightful young adult romance that skillfully captures the thrill of first love and the challenges of pursuing one’s passions. Katie expertly intertwines the worlds of two talented figure skaters, bringing their stories to life with palpable chemistry and heartfelt emotions.

Although she has heard a health-class lecture on sex, seen R-rated movies, listened to her sister brag about how many times a day she and boyfriend Flip can have sex and has read books with sexual scenes, Samantha thinks there is still much she does not know about sex. She wonders if instinct will take over, if sex will be good right away, if you have to acquire a taste for it, if sex will hurt the first time and how long birth-control pills take to be effective. I honestly can’t think of anything in this book that didn’t work for me. Even though I HATED Samantha’s mom with the fire of a thousand suns, I still appreciated her role in the story. She was a catalyst for so much that happens, and even though I would constantly cringe because of things she said or did, I knew her character served a very important purpose. Ugh…she made me so angry though!! Oh, and her boyfriend is just THE.WORST!!!! The story revolves around Samantha Reed, a responsible and disciplined seventeen-year-old girl who has always lived an organized and predictable life. She belongs to a well-off family with a politician mother who prioritizes their public image over everything else. Samantha has always looked at her neighbors, the Garretts, from afar, longing for the warmth, chaos, and love that seems to radiate from their household. In truth I didn’t know what to expect from this book. I found both Tim and Alice interesting characters in My Life Next Door, but they weren’t my favorites, and I didn’t expect to love them. I also couldn’t imagine them as a couple. But their romance squeezed my heart. It was wonderfully sweet and touching.

Customer reviews

Surprises abound and sparks ignite in the highly anticipated, utterly romantic companion to My Life Next Door

Location, place, place: As a birthed as well as likewise reproduced New England lady, I certainly loved the touches of genuine seaside life that Huntley weaves throughout overview. The location in which this tale takes place is so whimsical as well as likewise enchanting, therefore totally summer season in New England. He was the best first boyfriend you could have. Smart, cute, funny, and patient. I liked how open he was and honest, how he treated Sam so well even when things got rough. Also I loved how he was there for his siblings, for his parents, and I loved how he kept fighting for his dreams (figuratively speaking) even though there were such slim chances for them to come true.

Hated all the parts where Tim narrated Cal's 'thoughts', I guess it was meant to be cute or something but it was just cringey. Really, other than Alice being exhausted and a bit of a jerk I really didn’t know that much more about her than I did in My Life Next Door. Books like My Life Next Door provide a mix of compelling narratives, relatable characters, and themes that explore love, personal growth, family dynamics, and the pursuit of dreams. Whether you’re seeking heartwarming romance, introspective journeys, or emotional depth, each book offers a unique reading experience that will resonate with “My Life Next Door” fans and lovers of contemporary young adult fiction. 7 Books Like My Life Next Door (Contemporary Romance) And the fact that Tim didn't do this one thing to begin with, after finding out about The Big Thing? Hint: he should have questioned the accuracy of what he was told from the start. It doesn't make you a d**khead - it makes you smart. Duh. When I read about Jase and Sam, I thought there couldn't be a sweeter teen couple, but man, I was wrong. I like Alice & Tim a lot more. I mean Alcoholic and teenage dad Tim still managed to be Hot in a very unique way. Alice, Oh, Alice, I just love her! Then there's Hester, who takes annoying to a whole new universe! I mean, man, she couldn't abort Cal but she sure as hell was looking forward to throwing him in the arms of any potential adoptive parents! And Cal? He was such a cutie!

After seeing Clay and her mother passionately kissing on the family’s front porch, Samantha often wonders about the nature of Grace and Clay’s relationship. The thought usually grosses her out. Grace is unusually agreeable to Clay’s suggestions, which prompts Nan to ask Samantha if sex is what caused the changes in Grace’s attitude and demeanor.Anyway. To each their own. Big families are fun, according to my dad (and my mom, who had seven siblings). But I have two older siblings and they are two enough. Not for me! Again, I realize this is a personal thing. But coming from large families? Taught me a few things.
