About this deal

Issue 125 of Prog contained the magazine’s Critics’ Choice for 2021, in which Common Ground was ranked the third highest album overall. In 2013 after writing with Steve Rothery for a few months, the Steve Rothery Band was formed along with Leon Parr (drums), Yatim Halimi (bass) and Riccardo Romano (keyboards) with Martin Jakubski (vocals) added for the live shows. In 2014 Rothery released his first solo album The Ghosts Of Pripyat, which Dave co-wrote. Bailie, Geoff (29 April 2019). "Big Big Train – 'Grand Tour' (Album Review)". The Prog Report . Retrieved 21 November 2021. After a year of considering leaving music altogether, Dave slowly began to fall in love with the guitar all over again and in 2008 was invited to join Steve Rothery in his live band for The Wishing Tree - Rothery’s project with Hannah Stobart. Shortly afterwards Dave started to write music again and in 2010 he released his debut album Gravity featuring Dutch vocalist Dinet Poortman. Following this album Mr. So & So disbanded and Dave subsequently formed Sleeping Giant in 2001 with Charlotte Evans (vocals), Leon Parr (drums), Simon Crumley (bass) and James Rimmer (keyboards). Sleeping Giant released two EPs (Primates and Embers) before disbanding in 2006.

This is a difficult album if you knew the man but it’s wonderful to hear what he had been working on in these days before he left us. Give it a spin if you can and enjoy it for what is is a fine collection of promise and, ultimately, of hope. The same issue of Prog magazine also included the magazine’s annual Readers’ Poll, in which David and Big Big Train feature prominently: Rikard started playing accordion at the age of 6, and guitar at 10. When he was 17 he bought a Hammond organ and formed the duo Bootcut with Petter Diamant. Bootcut released two CDs on their own called Hammond vs Drums (2002) and De Fluff (2005). A digital only release called Suspended Animation saw the light of day almost ten years later and a fourth album has been recorded. David was also a fiercely proud father to his two daughters, Amelia and Eloise. He loved watching them experience life and grow up into the wonderful young women they are today. He would always proclaim “I am a feminist! Of course I am! I am the father of two girls and I want them to have the best of everything life has to offer.” At the time of his death, the album was 90% finished. However, David’s partner Sarah and all the key protagonists involved in its creation agreed that David would want the world to hear the album.

During that time he founded Dim Gray alongside guitarist Håkon Høiberg, drummer Tom Ian Klungland and former bassist Robin Kirknes. In Dim Gray, Oskar handles vocals, keyboards and production, and writes much of the material. The band released their debut album Flown in 2020, which was followed by their acclaimed second album Firmament in 2022. A third album is expected to be released in 2024. Lewry, Fraser (20 November 2021). "Big Big Train singer David Longdon dead at 56". Louder . Retrieved 20 November 2021. Clare Lindley grew up in the 1970s in rural Aberdeenshire in Scotland, where a rich traditional music culture still sits happily amongst popular music. She learned classical viola at school and played in string quartets and orchestras. Her tenuous claim to fame is that she was in a string quartet at school with J.K. Rowling’s husband! We are in the early stages of planning an event for fans to be able to attend and celebrate David’s life. It is hoped that this event will take place before the summer and we hope to announce details later this spring.Wild River’, the first solo album from David Longdon has been re-mixed, re-mastered and expanded and will be released on 20th October. It is preceded by a single ‘Always’, which is available now. Born in St. Helens, Merseyside in north west England, Dave started playing guitar at the age of 6 and ‘found’ music when he was 12 years old after discovering a cassette copy of Simon & Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits.

One of the greatest voices of the era. Not only one of the finest frontmen in modern day progressive music but also a really lovely man. His was a tragic loss.” – Jerry Ewing, Editor, Prog Magazine

He started music college in 1997, initially in Liverpool for one year before moving onto the Leigh College of Music where he met the musicians who would then become Mr. So & So – Shaun McGowan (bass & vocals), Leon Parr (drums), Kieren Twist (keyboards) and Charlotte Evans (vocals). Thank you my darling – for being my best friend, for asking me to be your wife, for allowing my soul to bond with yours – and for the extraordinary gift of your love. On 22nd March 2022, Kingmaker Management and Big Big Train hosted a memorial evening at Kings Place in London to celebrate David’s life. David’s Big Big Train bandmates past and present, alongside the BBT team, welcomed over 100 guests from within the music industry – all of whom had worked with David in some way. The evening included a number of acoustic performances of music written by or closely associated with David, both within and outside Big Big Train, as well as spoken word tributes. During 2015 Dave was invited to tour with Panic Room and went on to join the band for three years during which they toured extensively in the UK and recorded one album (Essence).
