I learned so much about London’s history and character via off-the-beaten path stops and Shaughan’s stories, told with humor and his deep knowledge. As the New York Times put it, the walk is “a highly entertaining… blend of historical commentary and bizarre anecdote laced with mildly scurrilous gossip about past and present celebrities and defunct royals.He’s a geographer and evenhe got lost although he admitted it was his fault but it was great - ish - a few words -fun getting back to the beat and track. Stephen Millar and his team have produced excellent walks all over London with masses of information and very good photos( by the author). The sunny weather helped throw and unexpected but welcome brightness on the many Wren churches, their stained glass windows and of course the majestic St Pauls … and his anecdotes kept us amused too. Let it help you discover some of London's most historic and hidden away pubs and let it tell you what to look out for once you cross their thresholds. Step off the beaten track, forget your usual walking route, and explore some of the best hidden walks in London instead! This walk – though it takes several necessary detours off the towpath – is known as one of the most beautiful stretches of waterway in England. This book is a wonderful way to explore this sometimes secretive city, great for either hardened Londoners or first time visitors. We were in a large group and there were competing noises from traffic, sirens and building sites but Adam’s voice could clearly be heard. Stop for a coffee before you cross Bedford Hill road and continue to the northern part of the common.There is a wealth of history in the City of London much of which is, as the name of the walk suggests, hidden!

Amazing how we could be on a busy street, turn up a little lane that’s almost invisible, and find a hidden treasure that the average tourist would never notice.
