About this deal

We were really excited about working on the series because it was just so clear that A Horse Named Steve ticked all the boxes we look for when looking at developing an animated series. However, one of the main reasons why I thoroughly enjoyed A Horse Named Steve was owed to Collier’s simplistic, yet expressive, illustrations which whole-heartedly showcase the equine’s bright and bubbly personality. Normally I sit down to read the newest children's books I received from Netgalley to my children before bed, and usually I like most of them. The tone of the book allows children to feel like they’re in on the joke while the main character isn’t, adding to the amusement. A Horse Named Steve is silly while also reminding readers what it means to stand out, blend in, and being uniquely yourself.

For instance, I absolutely ADORED the ‘Sniff Sniff’ and ‘Nom Nom’ inserts, and found them immensely entertaining! Colin: In these pitches you’ve got one minute to impress somebody before they decide either “this is boring” or “I love this. The realisation of his self-worth teaches an essential lesson to young children about valuing themselves over their appearance.Vain Steve ties a horn to his head in an effort to be exceptional, prompting all his forest friends to copy him, leading to.

Students, teachers and educational institutions are the future animation market and Toon Boom is dedicated to helping you build a solid foundation. Belfast-based animation studio Sixteen South is developing a 2D animated series based on popular Canadian kids’ book A Horse Named Steve, written by Kelly Collier (author and illustrator). Before long, their familiar, now very nervous barnyard friends (Goat, Hen, Goose, Cow, Duck, and Pig) squeeze into the garage. That Steve is never really shaken in his desire to be exceptional is in keeping with the book’s light touch. We reached out, and they responded that the book was on their radar and they would love to option it as well. The eponymous equine, like Cephissus and nymph Liriope’s self-infatuated kid, has a high opinion of himself. He is confused by this peculiar-looking duck, who has a long tail, doesn’t waddle and likes to be alone.

Although the picture books target kids ages three to seven, they have a self-awareness and “dry humor” that make it easy to age up the series concept for eight- to 11-year-olds, explains Williams.

The 2D-animated comedy series (52 x 11 minutes) revolves around a self-absorbed horse and his endless schemes to capture attention and stand out from the crowd. The trailer should give the audience a basic understanding of who the character is, what their world is, and what they’re all about. The artwork, done in ink and watercolor, and finished digitally, is likewise quirky and somewhat sweet. Not everyone is impressed, but most of his friends agree – Steve and his horn are indeed exceptional.
