About this deal

I mean, we all know she gets clean because she is like rockin' right now, but between like her bottom out days and like Never Been Kissed and Ever After, which were like her "come back" movies, what happened in between? Even though it was written many years ago, I think it would benefit both those struggling in addiction as well as the ones who help them. I snapped up this book as soon as it came out in paperback and have read and re-read it more times than I can count. Drew is offering advice to young actresses entering rehab these days: ""If you don't pull it together for yourself, no one else will," she says in the March issue of Vogue. I'm giving this five stars because to be put through the memoir process when you are 13 and 14 and currently in rehab, IS A CRIME, and so Drew deserves the stars.

After a deep breath and reading this autobiography again, I plan to read "Happily Ever After" by Leah Furman, and follow Drew's adult career at least enough to find some resolution to the heartbreaking impact this childs story left me with. Faced with an abusive father, the execrable and vicious degenerate John Drew Barrymore( it is shocking to read of the physical and emotional abuse he subjected the little girl to) , a mother who was not always there, and nasty schoolmates, she drifted into the company of an older crowd and began her descent into drugs and alcohol by nine, when she began drinking alcohol, began smoking marijuana by ten (offered it by a friend's mother),and was snorting cocaine at twelve.update: I re-read this immediately after reading Wildflower, and found it interesting to compare the two versions of some items that came up in both books - and also how Drew characterized her time in the hospital in Wildflower. The story is complex and there is the mothers point of view, the findings in her own therapy, dozens of details and quotes from Drews therapists and other observations that do deserve to be included to establish timelines and round out the story. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Of a day out with Cameron Diaz she says – “When we arrived at the school we were met by a bunch of dudes.

I'm sure Drew will never forget the turning point in her treatment that left her speechless: "Drew, have you reached your bottom yet? Not knowing much about Drew Barrymore as a person but liking her work I jumped at reading this when I got the chance. I haven’t read these nor am I much of a film fan, but I do know the feeling – several years ago I read Bob Geldof’s autobiography ‘Is That It?For some reason Jaid Barrymore thought it a good idea to let a 9-year-old, albeit a precocious one, accompany her to clubs and gave her more social freedom than most parents (including mine) allow for teenagers. It's a heart breaking story of a real-life Hollywood child star whose life spirals out of control before barely making it through puberty. She has been a CoverGirl spokeswoman, an Ambassador Against Hunger, posed nude for Playboy and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And as I’m a football fanatic, I’ve read so many footballer autobiographies and while there’s the odd exception, they are usually spectacularly dull!

Drew shows wisdom beyond her years as she invites the reader to look at her relationship with her mother, her non-relationship with her father, and her desent into drink and drugs. In the end though, she is back in the hospital after a second relapse, scared, ashamed, discouraged. This piece I related to the most, since at first, she so badly wanted her father to be her hero and a faithful, loving father. Part of it was clearly a career move, but I appreciated it nevertheless, and I thought it was very admirable to provide such an honest and helpful admission. I certainly do in this case – she was the breadwinner from age 11 months and with that came a huge emotional burden that any kid would struggle with (hence why she was a great case study for my essay about attachment issues!

Drew talks about the support given to her by Steven Spielberg who she says gave her the best advice she ever been given on acting : "Drew, you can't act your character, you gotta be your character. this has given me a little bit of hope that even though I'm not there yet, and it will take me a long, long time to be 'there', people can come through things like this. No child, no matter who, should ever have to suffer the torment, pain, frustration, humiliation, bitterness, disappointment, abandonment and fear that this beautiful child and world class talent endured.

I understand this, as in my instance, I haven't had any 'proper' communication with my mum since I was 14. T. the Extra-Terrestrial and quickly became one of Hollywood's most recognized child actresses, going on to establish herself in mainly comic roles. I really admired how she told her abusive pig of a father to get out of her life, when she was eight, after achieving success in E. Instead however I had to make all my own mistakes and now I think maybe I should have paid more attention to her memoir.I am 23 now, am an alcoholic and recovering drug addict, and have been in and out of psychiatric hospitals (which I think really helped me relate to Drew's experiences of being in hospital). At the time of publication of this book, her relationship with her mother had been progressing, although since this book came out, it is a known fact that her relationship with her mum has been strained. Her writing is constantly interrupted by by Todd Gold, whose input, in my opinion should be shorter and be in footnotes at the bottom of the page. It gave a lot of insight of what she went through as a child star her issues with drugs and how she came through the ordeal.
