About this deal

It made me laugh, it made me cry and left me with a feeling of community spirit - I will definitely be recommending this to others, it is a fantastic read' ? I absolutely loved the first book and was never expecting a follow up when I listened to it in 2018. These vignettes truly capture the tone of 2020 with loneliness, fear and grief being juxtaposed with community, joy and love. The book recommendations throughout the story have a wide range of offerings, with a sentence or two to describe why it was added as a possibility of interest and intrigue to answer an individual’s request. There are a real range of reasons that people turn to books when they are compulsorily stuck at home from domestic abuse through loneliness, insecurity, love stories and the inevitable deaths from COVID.

A cosy story about the joy of stories, not only the books that are recommended for people who ask but the lives of the different people who receive them. While fiction, it is packed with the realities of what real people encountered, suffered through, triumphed over. By participating in the Kindle App Challenge this first Qtr, I completed 3 books for the month of January. There are quite a few issues covered, and it’s quite clever the way that they’re introduced via the ‘book pharmacy’. There is a great deal of talking about, loss in all its forms and I was very upset at times during the book.

All of those things are legitimate realities, but they felt a little more tossed in there than part of the story itself. The very real aspect of this being set through the pandemic made it quite challenging at times and brought back some of those very weird emotions I know a lot of people felt during such a weird time, but it also reminded me of how much I read at that time and how important books were to me then, when I had nothing else to do but sit and worry. Yes, this novel is set during the first few months of the Covid pandemic, but don't let that stop you from reading it, especially if you enjoyed the first in the series as much as I did. There is love, family, loneliness, grief, loss, illness, joy, all facets of the human experience told with such heart. The idea is a success and they soon receive many letters from people requesting books to help them with the challenges they are facing during the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic.
