About this deal

I would even say this became my favorite novel in the series so far because it ends well, there is a lot of action and demons and such, and it kind of wraps up the previous three novels in a good way. Garro is a fascinating character, bound to serve but with his own scale of morality that sets him apart from the dour, unimaginative heroes of most space operas.

When the Istvaan 3 atrocity happens it’s up to Garro to flee the system and deliver the message of Horus betrayal. Along similar lines I was bothered that FOTE began before the events of Galaxy in Flames, which is not immediately a problem, however knowing that the Eisenstein is going to get away doesn't really justify 60% of the book's page time to essentially repeat a large chunk of Galaxy in Flames from a slightly different perspective. The middle is most statisfying especialy if you have read the previous books because now the storryline from Galaxy in Flames carries on. The imagery is outlined to just the precise level of detail to allow the reader to imagine and construct his own vision of the settings which I find is very rarely achieved, that perfect balance between what is said and is allowed to be imagined is perfectly struck.Der Tragödie nächster Abschnitt führt uns nun zu den Astartes der Death Guard mit ihrem abtrüngigen Primarch Mortarion. Having witnessed the events on Istvaan III, Deathguard Captain Garro seizes a ship and heads to Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery. I have always loved the moments in the early HH novels where key characters first find out about the betrayal. This particular instalment follows the flight of Nathaniel Garro, a Captain in the Death Guard Legion from the betrayal of the Isstvan III Virus-Bombing in an attempt to bring warning of Horus's treachery to the Emperor.

Flight of the Eisenstein follows the Eisenstein, a frigate of the Death Guard Legion commanded by Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro of the 7th Company, one of the few commanders in the Traitor Legions who remained Loyal to the Emperor. DARK HORIZON, his new stand-alone thriller, is out now from Welbeck; OUTLAW, the 6th Marc Dane novel, is published by Bonnier, and the 4th book in the series - SHADOW - is available in the USA from Forge. The Heresy series is not easy to get into without a little understanding of background of the 40K universe but as with False Gods (Book 2) this is a fine place to start. The blurb tells you straight up, Garro and his loyals are heading for Terra to bring news of the betrayal to the Emperor himself. The story was nothing special, there were some interesting bits of lore, but in my opinion, Graham McNeil does a much better work at describing the corruption a Chaos. I’m never a fan of obvious bad guys so Grulgor was a bit of an ‘eye roll’ for me and the Decius’ inner dialogue section could have been played as more of a struggle to turn to chaos.

You don’t have to pitch your emotional response at missing the winning goal or a rumour at an office party, instead it’s feeling sad about a galaxy wide rebellion, horror at maggots crawling out of necrotic zombie flesh, or the brutal decision to sever your own arm in the midst of battle. An interesting feature that I picked up in this book, or at least took note of for the first time, was that corpses reanimated by the Warp apparently can maintain their memories. The known universe is controlled by the Emperor and his sons control legions of super-soldiers that fight for survival against alien races and ultimately, each other. I genuinely feel ashamed about ever talking about the opening trilogy as the phenomenal first founding of this saga.
