About this deal
I hope this post was helpful if you’ve been wanting an easy and inexpensive way to antique almost anything. European Gold Rub 'n Buff is a cool light gold wax-metallic finish that is perfect for antiquing stenciling and other craft projects. Rub ‘n Buff — I purchased this set of five different golds that I’ve tested for you in this post (you can also find them sold individually here). European Gold – The least saturated, cooler-toned of all of the Rub ‘n Buff golds, this shade is more of a champagne hue and is best if you want just a slightly gold tinted color.
However, my main frustration with Rub n Buff is that you really can’t tell the color it will appear based on the packaging. Easy to apply - just rub onto any surface with finger or soft cloth, then buff to a beautiful lustre. I love that rub n buff matches so well to my antique vibe and depending on how many layers you add on you can create a very antique rustic appearance. Now that I’ve stumbled on your blog, I realize there are other colors that would have worked better.I want to make a mirror that is kind of just a grey/tan plastic wood grain finish look much more silvery (think tiara) and was wondering what would be the best product to use?
I want to turn a reproduction Louis Philippe mirror into a more realistic looking antique and this helped me narrow it down.
When testing out these colors, I made the rookie mistake of not sanding first like I normally do, so it made the “buffing” step next to impossible and resulted in a chunky, terribly textured, dull finish. I found that the spray paint will also “grab” onto the Rub ‘n Buff and make it adhere to the surface very well. NOTE: Do not use cleaners that contain solvents as these may cause the Rub 'n Buff to disperse into the carpet padding.
