About this deal

The first lasted about 2 months before it started playing up, started stopping and starting when running. I have mounted the pbd40 next to my compound mitre saw on a metabo extending work stand so that the base of it is level with that of the compound saw. Maybe they need more power, holes of accurate and repeatable depth, or to make holes using larger Forstner bits than their power drill can handle. A : Hi Ben, well Bosch list the PBD 40 as being suitable for drilling holes of up to 40mm diameter in wood so you should be within the upper limits of its operational capability, but I'm afraid I'm not sure if it will do it "easily".

When you say "large" forstners, what diameter do you mean by that (a large forstner to me is 40mm+). Please note that cordless products will normally have a shorter warranty of just 1 Year for the battery and or charger supplied. However, our two reviews combined (and linked by your post) give a nicely collaborative approach to a product review . Yes, the travel could be limiting, except that I do exactly as you suggested and move the head down once the hole has reached "bottom". To meet the cancellation deadline you should send your notice to cancel before the 30 day ‘cooling off’ period has expired. This isn't the first Bosch i've given bad notes for, perhaps the fact that they are produced in china has alot to answer for the bad quality control; and it's poor. One thing I would point out is I have to tighten the pillar lock as hard as I can to prevent any wobble. I find the height adjustment really nice using the wheel and whereas before I would have tried to avoid moving the table I now adjust the height for almost every drill change.I really don't understand why this is a "green" tool, which is what Bosch consider a "DIY" tool rather than a "blue" tool which is their professional line. Some struggle with the fact there's no handle on the wheel but it does have a big advantage in pen making. Very actuate for drilling the same depth hole time and time again and great for countersinking multiple holes to the correct depth. This is great if you know you need to drill holes to an exact depth, which you can either eyeball by watching the display, or set the built- in stop-block for the desired depth.

For example, a large-diameter Forstner bit will need to be driven more slowly to avoid burning the wood.I've now had this for 4 months, so i would like to think I can now give a sensible, calculated review. The drill provides excellent visibility with a laser crosswire that allows the workpiece to be precisely positioned before drilling and an LED worklight that keeps the work area well illuminated and free from shadows. If measured from no-pressure to pushing in one direction then it's about half that much, about one sixth of a millimeter. I was concerned about the size of the machine but there is plenty of clearance for drilling into even quite a large piece of timber if you wind the head up to the top. This might be a deal breaker for some, but hasn’t hindered our use thus far, and should we ever require an angled hole, it should be easy enough to rig up a homemade jig to sit on the baseplate.

But, as good as they are in marketing they probably don’t know that, yet, or ever - someone else is going to nail this soon. The new PBD 40 Bench Drill from Bosch is the perfect solution for the DIY enthusiast looking for maximum precision coupled with complete ease of use. b. The workpiece clamp is a touch too tight on the pillar, it often sticks and has to be wiggled around before it can be raised. What’s lost from an adjustable baseplate is compensated for by the built-in clamp and adjustable parallel guide fence. Usable for so many things, and I've also seen many tricks on youtube for using this in ways it wasn't intended, although i guess some of them may be unsafe to do. I use a lot of countersunk head woodscrews in my projects and I can now cut an infinite number of countersinks of identical diameter by courtesy of the instantly usable digital depth reading.
