About this deal

It’s almost maddening how simply effective the Bar Mitts are — and why it’s taken me so long to try them. But I take back any side-eyeing I’ve ever done because they are indeed incredibly effective and I have now become a "pogie" user. Unlike most pogies, Bar Mitts do not cinch closed around the wrist, which makes me feel better about potentially disconnecting from my bike on rougher trails. The Bar Mitts, however, are more like neoprene pockets that fold over and enclose your brake levers and hoods, close around the bar using velcro yet keep an opening for easy hand insertion and removal. However, these days I'd rather wear a full gimp suit in the supermarket than be seen with them on my bike.

I have been adding Acerbis handguards, then heated grips, have a set of heated gloves on their way and it is definately not enough top stop wind and rain from cooling the front of hands/fingers. I am very pleased with the results and the bar mitts are quite effective at blocking the wind and making cold rides much more enjoyable. Bar Mitts offers sizes Small through XL, so it all comes down to one’s preference, the temperature you’ll be riding in, mechanical vs electronic shifting, and the size of your hands and bulkiness of your gloves. To beef up the openings, and give them a little more structure, I rolled both openings and couple times and stitched those in.In the thrall of global climate change, winters here in the Pacific Northwest have become increasingly more severe. But like most Points Unknown projects, I encourage your own creativity and would love to hear about upgrades and improvements in the comments. Attaches to drop handlebars to block out wind and keep the hands warm even when riding at speed in low temperatures. Additionally, the Bar Mitts themselves are easy to install and remove as temperature changes warrant.

The generational debate is always easy to solve: the riders of our youth are always better than the riders of today. With a wide opening to accommodate your coat sleeves, you’ll be able to place your hands in and out at a moment’s notice.Developed over a five-year period with input from Mike Curiak's years of self-supported trips on the Iditarod Trail and veteran racers of the Alaska Ultra Sport and Arrowhead 130 events. But once you’re riding in freezing temperatures with warm hands, you’ll be way less worried about how they look. Installing the Bar Mitts was straightforward and quick, and armed with my new cold weather shield, I set out to test them during another winter gravel adventure in sub-freezing temperatures.

In fact I used to not have heated grips (this was back in the day when you'd stop at a traffic light, knock it into neutral and reach down and warm your frozen fingers on the engine until the light changed) and just wear summer gloves, and I never felt like I had cold hands. I actually like my Bar Mitts so much that I have started to keep them on my bike for any rides under 45 degrees (much to the chagrin of my friends, family, and dog). Inside the Bar Mitts, I had started out with mid-level gloves — ones I usually wear in 40- to 55-degree weather. They help protect your hands from the elements while freeing up your fingers to operate the brakes, shifter, twist power assist, and control system. As a result, there are some variables that are out of our control (like container shortages, port delays, and the Suez Canal incident).
