About this deal

Her honest, hilarious and moving account of the whys and hows of having a baby makes perfect reading for expectant mothers and fathers everywhere, as well as those who've been there, done that, and wonder how on earth they did. It is obvious that she loves her child very much, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't feel some of the more challenging things that come alongside that and she's not afraid to say so. And her voice was so clear throughout the book, never getting lost to ‘I am writing a book I must sound formal and knowledgeable’. What I didn't expect was how honest and open it was about areas of motherhood we rarely discuss, the early newborn stage, the post C-section aftermath etc.

There were weird castings, when I’d just be in a pair of knickers and thinking, “Was that fine or not? The film must be an original narrative created, produced and devised by a woman, or women, although male cast and crew members are allowed. Trying to make up for lost time, I began to look at places for my unborn child when I was seven months pregnant. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Ellie was one of five UK comedians to be featured in Netflix’s trailblazing Comedians of The World series, with her special Cravings premiering on New Year’s Day 2019. Raw, candid and hilarious, Ellie Taylor’s My Child and Other Mistakes is the funny truth about motherhood and all its grisly delights. As the front-woman of Blondie, she and the band forged a new sound that brought together the worlds of rock, punk, disco, reggae and hip-hop to create some of the most beloved pop songs of all time. Nursery means I can sit in a café or go for a run or go to a meeting or do some writing or record something silly or do anything I bloody well want because I DON’T HAVE TO LOOK AFTER MY OWN CHILD.

The world is full of expectations of the perfect parent who never gets angry with their children and never misses their life before parenthood - I like to read books that present that truth instead of perpetuating that madness. A refreshing, hilarious, raw and brutally honest account of the process of deciding to become a parent and everything that follows, whatever the path this may take. I truly believe there is something in here for everyone and I know it will be a book I refer to again and again throughout the journey ahead. So lovely to read about someone else's experiences and to reflect on the early days of having my first son (it's a bit different second time round as know more what to expect! In the last eighteen months, I’ve had a lovely amount of success on the comedy film festival circuit, with a lot of attention from the industry.A regular guest on panel shows, she created and starred in her own comedy short ELLIE SOLVES PARENTING on Sky One. When I watch her acting or her stand up I genuinely belly laugh at the things that she has to say so I was eager to read her memoir My Child and Other Mistakes because I knew that I would be entertained. As the mother of a 2-year-old girl, who must have been born not too long after Ellie's daughter, I really enjoyed looking back at that period of time in my own life, through another woman's perspective.
