About this deal

Fazal’s world is now focused on Company 32 and the animals he cares for in the midst of one of the most frightening times in history. An accomplishment many historians credit for saving Britain from being forced out of the war with Germany. These books for teenagers take a variety of different approaches to representing the events of World War II. The German High Command would capture Dunkirk mainly with infantry, thus saving the tanks for the main push. British commander Gort's determination to pull out highly dramatized, as is the opposition in London; the French charge that didn't inform them dismissed.

The operation was led by Vice-Admiral Bertram Ramsay, who oversaw the evacuation from a headquarters set up in Dover, England. Much of the human interest lies in the relationship between Private Hawke and his sergeant, his future brother-in-law, and the responsibility each feels for the other. So of course Langley joins the Resistance until a friendly doctor certifies him as unfit for duty and he is invalided back to England, where he joins MI9 and helps run the Resistance from there. This was an informative book about the events that drove allied British and French troops to the beaches of Dunkirk and the efforts made to rescue them. Thompson, drawing on his military expertise, offers a detailed analysis of the military strategies, challenges, and outcomes of the operation. All aspects help capture the bravery, spirit, audacity of the British people that allowed them to save their army – an achievement that would go a long way in finally defeating the Nazis five years later.

The book follows the fortunes of these men through their training, the phoney war and their experiences in the battles leading up to the evacuation from France.

Despite the sacrifices made by members of Company 32, not everyone treats them as equals, which becomes shockingly apparent as they await evacuation at Dunkirk. In May 1940, the small British Expeditionary Force was sent to help the Belgians and French hold back the German army. Operation Dynamo, also known as the Dunkirk evacuation, was a major military operation conducted by the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and its allies during World War II.
