As far as Charles II-related goes, Charles Beauclerk wrote a biography of his ancestress Nell Gwynn, restoration actress and Charles II’s mistress, which I read about 15 years ago and remember as being an interesting look at the royal court and made more interesting by the personal link between the author and the principle characters.

This beautifully bound illustrated edition of the Authorized King James Bible celebrates the 2023 Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla. Both King Charles and Queen Camilla are avid readers, and Charles himself has even authored a few books (and written forewords for others). Charles is 74, and an adult life of that length is seldom the stuff that pat morals like “Obey your mother when she says not to leave the backyard” or “Cabooses are important too” can be gleaned from. Nice try, but does anyone really want to instruct their kids in the merits of wasting their youth, their prime, and even their middle age in anticipating an unearned reward?
On the publication of the book, author and illustrator Nicholas Allan has said, “I initially wrote and illustrated The King’s Pants a long time ago, but like an old pair of boxer shorts it has been sat at the bottom of my drawer for many, many years, and now I feel is the right time to bring that original story to light for a whole new audience.
