Lotions are good for hairy or damaged areas of skin (such as weeping eczema – where pus is seeping out of damaged areas of skin). By smoothing and softening the skin, moisturisers like Hydromol can improve the absorption of other medicines that are applied to the skin. Bedding and clothing should be washed regularly (preferably daily) to minimise the build-up of impregnated paraffin although it may not be completely removed, unless it is washed at a high temperature as paraffin is invisible and can accumulate over time. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard.

Hydromol cream can be used in conjunction with other skincare products, but it's recommended to check with a dermatologist first, in case there may be any interactions with other products, especially with any topical medications. Hydromol Cream is effective for use on any condition in which dry skin is a feature, such as eczema, ichthyosis, psoriasis and xerosis. If you or your children need to use an emollient regularly, it's a good idea to keep some in small pots or tubes at home, school or work.

This product should be used in combination with other topical leave on emollients, as required or advised by a Healthcare professional. If you're using it on your breasts just make sure you wash any residual ointment off before giving a feed.

The active ingredient in Hydromol cream is sodium pyrrolidone carboxylate which is a humectant, a type of moisturiser that works by attracting water from the air and deeper layers of the skin increases the water content in the upper layers of the skin and by keeping the skin hydrated. Keep away from fire, flames and cigarettes when using all types of emollients (both paraffin-based and paraffin-free). If you're using a lot of Hydromol ointment as a moisturiser your clothing and bedding should be changed regularly, preferably daily, because the ointment can soak into fabric and can become a fire hazard. Hydromol’s formula also contains sebum and soft white paraffin, natural oil that slows down the evaporation of water from the skin’s surface, locking in the moisture and preventing the skin from drying quickly. Its humectant properties work to moisturize the skin from the inside while its oil-based layer helps to lock in the moisture.
